Early life

Kathy worked multiple jobs, including cutting hair and shoplifting, to make ends meet. As a child, Meek was introverted and rarely spoke. However, his interest in hip-hop grew after he became acquainted with his father’s brother, Grandmaster Nell, who was a pioneering DJ in the late-1980s Philadelphia hip-hop scene.
Meek was also inspired by independent hip-hop artists Chic Raw and Vodka, who he learned to emulate by watching their DVDs.
During his teenage years, Meek started participating in rap battles under the name Meek Millz. He spent countless hours filling notebooks with verses and later formed a rap group called The Bloodhoundz with three friends.
They burned CDs and distributed them among friends and acquaintances.
